Surrender Into Self

Derek LeissComment

            Nights tossing around thoughts

Turning in wheels of desires

                        Gears and cogs alive

Nothing like clockwork.

            Sponsored by want or worry

Or just chasing feel-goods and happy moments

Arriving at mind destinations meant to make us

Smile

Watching us flit away, tuned to wanted,

Tuned to feeling

                        Suppression

            That smiling destination

Still beaming

Radiant as we walk away from a home deep inside

                        Just to find it again

A while later after trying to secure

The thing that winks after us flitting around

Like clockwork, turning in wheels of desire.

Superimposed on the collection of

            Dream-things we’ve assembled

That we want, that we crave, that we strive to obtain

Only to be abstained can we catch that smile and

Ride the wave that’s dreaming us ~

                        Our own selves dreaming

Something like addiction carried across seas

To forge empires with grinning sword-teeth

Glinting supremacy:

                        Of race, religiosity,

We all see the smiles and the trials

Recycled into dirt

As every dream our ancestors seeded

Ruffles around beneath our feet,

            Rustling leaves,

                        Bubbling brooks,

                                    Penetrating roots

And the breath of the air…

Cleaning ourselves, our dreams, our kindred

                        Of greed, want, and worry

Before a wake of StarFury

            Collapses us into clockwork

                        Desire machines.

Enraptured by the shadow we cast when our backs are turned

To the light of our own beauty, beckoning

Dreams into reality

Surrender to the way back home
