Motivation and Inspiration
I don’t get motivated to do anything until I’m already doing it. I don’t think anyone does, really. I learned this through SMART meetings, where a lot of people shared the same experience. It has helped me form healthy habits and release old ones. It’s like momentum. I might not feel like washing the dishes, but I can commit to washing one, at least. That’s minimal effort. I may not want to expend the energy to bike to work, maybe I just want to drive or take the bus. But I get on the bike. Then, when I start to do the thing, I actually realize I enjoy it, or that there’s some good that’s coming out of it, and I become motivated to follow through with the experience.
Being still and experiencing the moment of choice is where the inspiration comes in. I’m inspired to get on that bike because it will help me stay in shape, won’t cost me money, and is faster than public transit. I’m inspired to clean up after myself because it feels good to have a clean space, making future tasks easy to begin. Being still, in that space, allows the inspiration to flow. Otherwise it’s the internal monologue trying to get us to take the easy way out. To do it later.
We are not just human doings, we are human beings! Being is a lot more of an engaged process than it may seem. It requires stillness, listening, and presence. Actively not doing, to align the doing appropriately.
Hope this inspires you!
