I used to try to fill the empty void of sorrow, the Hungry Ghost, with external things. Substances, relationships, entertainment, you name it. Life has taught me that the thing I was searching for, happiness, must come from within. For years, I thought I had learned this lesson, and yet, I find myself learning it again, so much deeper than before, these past few months.

Resistance to the truth of the moment creates suffering. If we are not true to ourselves, we are dishonest and not in alignment with our values, which creates suffering. If we do not respect others’ truths, we foster resentment and disharmony. This perpetuates the cycles of abuse and trauma. Boundaries are sacred. If we strive to be like others, do what others do, and achieve the status quo, we diminish ourselves and block our inner light from shining. No one is ever someone else. They are simply themselves. Denying that is a core source of unhappiness. Embracing the truth of oneself is core to Happiness.

True happiness comes from deep inside. From releasing and surrendering to truth and allowing the beauty of yourself to fill your life. You don’t need anyone to make you happy. You don’t need money, you don’t need fame, you don’t need a puppy (boy do they help!). You just need you.
