Extracting Positivity
“Extract the positive from every negative”
I borrowed a champion 2000 juicer from the local kitchen share two weeks ago, and was due to return it. Whilst my car is being worked on, and touting said machine on a bike is impractical, cumbersome, and unwieldy, this one decided to enlist the aid of an Uber or Lyft only to discover that rides were $60 and $30 respectively for a journey consisting of less than 4 miles!
The audacity!
I resign to haul the hefty appliance to the train, transfer to a bus, and walk the remaining ten minutes to the drop-off location across the city.
I do this, and arrive at my destination, only to find that it was locked. I check my phone, and note that it should be open for another 15 minutes (it has a 1.5 hour window on Saturdays only). I have a brief moment of panic: did they leave early?! "I should have gone early!" my Inner voice chides. Miffed, I toss around the idea of waiting a few minutes to catch the staff as they leave, but I think better of it and have the intuition to checky email.
Lol and behold, I had received an email two hours prior indicating that the kitchen share would be closed this week.
No!
Defeated, I accept that I must now carry this burden back to the bus and ride home with it.
Now, I have a choice:
I could waste my energy complaining and feeling frustrated that I wasted an hour and a half of my life and had to lug a bulky twenty pound machine for miles, berating myself for not checking my email sooner all the while...
Or
I could be grateful that I got some sun, some exercise, and an upper-body workout, to boot! Plus, I get to use the juicer longer! Sweet!
