Mundane into Magic
“Be resourceful and transform the mundane into Magic”
My partner teaches me many things, and one of them is to be resourceful! She's amazing at saving money, repurposing, and finding ways to get things that don't involve spending money. Some of it is about borrowing and living minimalistic, sure - the biggest medicine I take away from it is the direct connection of doing an action to get the thing you're looking for.
It's so easy to just buy something and then shelve it until you might want to use it one day. I've fallen prey to that lifestyle in the past, because it's supported and normalized by commercialism culture and a consumeristic society. We are bred by the big brands to buy and buy and buy and we fill up the World with Garbage, Pollution, and Giant Plastic Islands in the ocean while at the same time depleting our resources at a catastrophic rate. No bueno!
I did what I thought was pretty good about not contributing to that, but now I have a much deeper sense of how doing the footwork for the things you want. Making them yourself, getting them second hand, reusing something, or trading things. It's like a quest with real rewards that are tangible and make your life better while putting less stress on the environment. I had a friend back when I lived in AZ who turned our entire backyard into an art project from recyclables. While it wasn't functional, it illustrated to me that mundane throwaways could very well be magical treasure.
You've got talents. You've got a brain. Use 'em. Don't just buy shit and waste away on the couch!
